The popular culture art forms of Japanese anime (animated films) and manga (graphic novels) have their roots in traditional Japanese culture both in terms of artistic depictions and cultural references. We will examine woodblock prints, screens and armor on display in the gallery and show how they have influenced the storytellers who create thecontemporary characters found in samurai and science fiction anime and manga.
